Hi all,

I need a little help.

Recently i was hired to teach a college level class in special effects with using aftereffects. The department head says i need to add a book to the syllabus, you know, something for the students to reference or take class projects from. My question is do any of you have a suggestion for a really kick ass after effects book on special effects, or a great computer special effects book that describes the process using computers?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers

there has been a lot of threads about books on these lists before. try searching. My 2 cents. Best after effects book is After Effects : Studio Techniques by Mark Christiansen. Hands down, best book on compositing in AE. Trish and Chris Meyer's AE books are good but more gneralised and with a bit of a motion graphics centric approach.

I don't mean to sound like I'm on a personal vendetta against the author (because I've said this before), but I felt robbed after buying "After Effects 5.5 magic", so that's one book i can not recommend.

For instance, there was a keying tutorial to try out on the greenscreen clip provided on the CD-ROM - but the clip had been pre-comped so the background was a perfect 0-255-0 green color. Pfft!! Useless.

Hello,

Aneks: Thanks man! The day i got the gig i bought one of the books from Trish and Chris and it looks good, but yes it is very motion graphics ish... I will look into that other book you mentioned as it sounds more in line with what i need.

Jussing: Thanks for the heads up on the book. I will think twice before buying the aftereffect magic line of books.

Cheers
