Hello ppl,

A while ago my comp crashed and my videocart (Geforce4 Ti4200, 128MB) is not working anymore  So I had to get my old videocart in the comp. It's s-l-o-w but it's working.
But because of the computer crash I also had to install Studio Max again. And there is my problem. When I render somthing simple now the shadow is made out of squares :( Never had this problem before not even with this card I'm using now again. So can someone help me ?? Do I have to change some settings?

Thanks

AJ

Your graphics card shouldn't affect your shadows... Try increasing the size of the shadow map (under your lights shadow map parameters)

Hope this is what you mean!

try changing your render settings back to opengl or direct x?

This is driving me :insane:
shadows that don't look good and a videocart that is so #$&@$^ S-L-O-W

I tryed all kinds of things but the shadows are still bad.
Well atleast THANKS for your response

With a little luck I will soon have a new videocart so atleast it will work faster. Probably it's going to be an Geforce 4 Ti4200 or Ti4400. Or does someone has a better suggestion? After a terrible start of this year (not only about the comp but also other things) I don't have much to spend for a card.

Thanks again

hey eMiG,
sorry to hear about your year so far, I'm sure it'll get better.
your video card deosn't affect your renderings (unless this has changed?) so it's not the prob.

If you have a large scene and you are casting shadows of a small object that is a long way from your light then you either need a really high resolution shadow map on your lights or use raytraced shadows (slooooow in native max).

try changing you lights shadow type to raytraced and see what happens (use spotlights) or turn your shadow map up the kazoo, say 8000 ish.

good luck,
phil
