not a bad start.
i would work on character development a little more. do you have any drawings or sketches to work from? if you do, post them. if not, sketch something. a lot of times if we cg modelers dont work toward an idea that has been worked out in the beginning then we let ourselves be limited by what we know. draw him like you picture him in your mind and then figure out how to use mayas tools to model him.
look on the web for ideas to develop him as well. if he has weapons, is he cracked, what type of rock is he, etc. maybe he doesnt have any "extras" but you uv map and texture him well.
check out http://www.artbyfeng.com or http://www.bromart.com. these are two pretty popular artists that people steal ideas from.
hope i was helpful.
Thanks a lot jonnymac, i will keep that in mind for my next model. I will try to get as specific as i can and think of all that stuff. As for my refrence, well..it was bad, and originally a regular nintendo character. Then i redid it myself, which wasnt much better. So yea, it wasnt a good refrence, moreso something just for scale. Heh. Ok, cya.

why take the time to bother him with that useless post.
dont listen to that guy. i bet his other 2 posts are just as encouraging. keep at it. i like your character. with some more time on it you could develop something really quite good. a few more detailed textures and some enhanced lighting, and your on your way.

osukayasuragi, if you dont have anything CONSTRUCTIVE to say, then dont say anything at all. and by constructive i dont mean just saying "w00h00 your model r0x0rs" but pointing out the strong parts of the model as well as the weak ones, and giving suggestion on how to fix the weak spots..

well the image isnt loading for me so I cant comment on it, but what I do want to say is to osukayasuragi.
Everyone isnt sucking up to eachother here, and I dont think anyone is going to even let you try to turn this place into a dang flame forum, if thats the kind of thing you want go to flamevault.com and have fun there, but people here are at least trying to help eachother get better, and encourage new artists.....not just shoot them down from the start..and if you are saying hes wasting our time, how about you post some 3d work? (now my luck he'll be like a master, or just steal someones pic)

Image isn't loading for me either, but I for my part find osukayasuragis posts very amusing (well maybe they're not very nice but funny's not always akin to nice)

well i wasnt going to bother to reply to osukayasuragis very sophisticated remark (smart kid). but i just wanted to say, this is a forum for critique.
there is a lot of sucking up around here, yes. but just posting "you suck" is just lame. show you can do better and tell the person how to fix it.
