View Full Version : Environment: harbor sunset
protohiro 02-09-2003, 09:06 PM This is something I've been working on at work, its far from perfect but I've been messing with the ocean shader and HDRI in maya. The boeys are missing a file texture in this render (see the neat black holes...) and the antiAliasing isn't where it should be, but I think the HDRI on the ocean looks really cool. Anyway, look, comment or don't. Just thought I'd show you some stuff.

Good job protohiro. There's a decent amount of detail in the buoy's, and the sky looks pretty good.
There are several things in which can be poiinted out to make this work better though:
1. The buoys. While well done, they lack the detail that will give the scene that photorealistic look. I'd recommend putting a few bolts and dents into the meshes to fix that up.
2. The water. Once again, a well done piece, but lacking a streak of photorealism. This is probably caused by the shade of blue you chose in which to color it. Darkening it to a "hazy" blue color should correct that.
3. Finally, is the shadows, particularly the one for the buoy closest to the camera. Now, I dont live around any large bodies of water, but I don't think the shadow is supposed to be that dark and sharp on the surface of the ocean. It's likely that the shadow would be more distorted and its intensity dimmed quite a bit before it looks right.

What temporal about the shadows, an dalso, the lighthouse looks a bit 'too' white.
