So I started this model, thinking I was ready to tackle a 3d project in Maya. If I understand it correctly, I'm at 4k poly's...guess I'll be starting over....

Dont worry about starting over. You will get better with every iteration. First step I suggest you take (if you havent) is to gather a bunch of images of the pistol you are wanting to model. If you cant find any, you can always "print screen" it from the movie.

Can't help you much on the modelling, but on refs i noticed that parts of this gun is a Vector cp1.

Hey thanks for that!. I did have quite pieces of pictoral reference including the resin copy shown above, I didnt know about the vector. I also noticed it had elements of a wheel lock as well. I made the intial mistake of breaking it down into seperate pieces, to many in fact. Which probably explains my high count. I do also want to add an animation or two which shows the slide in action and possibly a firing sequence. But in the meantime, I'll go back and rework it from less polygons...Thanks again.
