CGTalk - preview effect

Can't seem to figure out this seemingly simple question. I have a composition setup and several layers with several effects on them. By double clicking on each layer in timeline I'm able to get additional window for viewing that indivdual layer. How do I setup AE so that when I do effects changes on that particular layer I can see results on that layer window rather than having to go back to compositoin to view changes to entire project? Currently I can only view that particular layer (individual window) but only without effects and only with mask lines. Is there some obvious setting I've missed?

Yes. Select the effect you want to preview from the rolldown at the bottom of the layer window. By default it's set to masks and paths.

Thanks. That was easier than expected. Originally thought the View dropdown was for each individual effect but is actually setup in progressive order of effect being applied instead.
