View Full Version : Lost my hip controller ( ouch ! )
XYZRGB 11-11-2006, 10:24 PM I'm following the "Beck" skeleton tutorial from the XSI website.
I must have screwed up something, because I can't find the 'hips_control' and the 'chest-control' objects in the Explorer.
If I accidently deleted them, where is the command to create them over ?
I also have another problem that I really would like some advice on : I created a cartoon character using several primitives. I used a couple of sphere primitives for the eyes and two more for the pupils.
I got lazy and wanted to see the model with some color, so I grouped the seperate pieces and assigned a color to them.
Now when I go to envelope the model, the eyes/pupils stay seperate from the head.
( They remain unselected )
I tried to delete the 'eyes' group that I created, but end up deleting the eyes /pupil mesh as well.
Please give me some tips on what I can do.
Thank you

Stop deleting everything!
Hmm. Didn't think of that one :D
Just viewed your reel. Great stuff !
( All done in XSI ? )
When you applied the envelope perhaps it didnt apply to all the object. But you'll probably not want to envelope eyes anyway since all they do is rotate. Just parent the pupil to the eyeball and rotate it, then envelope the head to a bone, and parent the eyeballs to the head bone.

I thought of parenting the eyeballs ( the iris portion of the eye ) to the head bone, but figured I'd screw that up too. ( Won't they snap to the bone and need some sort of offset ? )
What about that hip control ? If I deleted the hip control and chest control objects, then it was by accident. Is there no way to just recreate them ? Perhaps they are just hidden somewhere that I didn't see in the Explorer ( though I thought I expanded everything )
I also tried to unhide all objects in the scene, but nothing shows up.
Thanks again.

Not if you're just parenting, it should work fine.
I don't know anything about the other rig you're talking about, I've never used it.

I'm using this tutorial http://www.softimage.com/education/tutorials/tutorials_arch/default.aspx
( about half way down the web page, entitled " Character Set-up - Beck's Skeleton ")
I'm currently at page 115 of the tutorial to be exact.)
EDIT : That's a bad link to get to the tutorial I'm using, you have to look over at the right of the page under 'V3 tutorials then about halfway down the page is the 'Beck skeleton' tutorial.)

I created a skeleton from scratch just like the tutorial. I made sure not to delete anything, yet I can't find the hip_control & chest_control objects anywhere.
Again, I selected 'unhide all objects', yet I do not see them anywhere.
I even used the 'Select' menu in the far right corner to only select deformers and bones, yet the hip_ control & chest_ control objects still don't show up.
What have I done wrong ?

The hip controller and chest controller are probably just spline objects and are not actually deformers or bones. I don't think these are XSI objects, so if you didn't download the objects for the tutorial, you probably won't have it. You can just use an implicit cube instead of the Hip or Chest object or if you really want the look you can create your own objects from splines.
