View Full Version : Nvidia Quadro FX and preview problems
interference 11-11-2006, 11:50 AM hi,
i'm looking for someone wich works with a quadro FX card and has no problem with it.....
i've severals open gl problems with it, under after effetcs and all the software witch use ram previews (framecycler for example), the frame rates are unstable,
it can't keep a normal 25 fps cycle,
adobe says that it should work, but i'm pretty sure that it's a driver problem from nvidia...
anyone's working with a quadro fx serie card and after fx over here ? please ?

We are using various different models in our computers and have no problems whatsoever, regardless of that they are running on older drivers in part. If you are having problems in all applications, that almost rules out configuration and driver problems - at least one of them should work without any problems. I'd seriously consider replacing the card or checking the computer itself. FX cards are very touchy when the power supply is insufficient, cooling is not right or several other hardware related things.

I thing u have a problem at driver or system. i have Quadro 5500 and it works perfect at after effect, toxik and other graphic program. Which model have u got quadro fx ?
You can see AE7 Support Card Here (http://www.adobe.com/products/aftereffects/opengl.html),
You can download quadro fx driver for all program here (http://www.nvidia.com/page/partner_certified_drivers.html),
Adobe programs driver for quadro fx here (http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_27118),
AE7 System requirements here (http://www.adobe.com/products/aftereffects/systemreqs.html).

thx i've already check all those links, that why i'm thinking the problem is coming from the drivers, i've a quadro FX 1300, and when i use the 77.56 or the 84.26 drivers version, the problems are les important than with the latest 91.36 version.
i guessed that the problem could be the same with all the fx serie, but if you say that with your 5500, you have no problems... don't know if i'll get another Nvidia FX or i switch to an ati fire GL.... the weird thing is that with max or shake i've no problems....i've problems only with Afx and framecycler....and with a quadro 780XGL they are working fine ! wich drivers version are you using ?
thx

i am working with quadro and it is very good at graphic program. You have some proglem but quadro is perfect card. I thing if u have a lot of proglem, connect to nvidia. I am working qauadro fx5500 and all 3d,2d and compositing program. Sometimes my campany use my server for rendering and they say my machine is very good. Thing again... Contact Nvidia ...
Thx.

Stay away from fire gl if you seriously want to do any 3d. I generally rcommend getting quadro4500's for serious workstations. A 3500 should handle almost anything that AE 7 can throw at it. Check that you don't have a dud card !
I really dont know whats wrong with the card, maybe it is a dud card but games run fine and maya seems a bit faster then normal cards. I only have a problem with 3dsmax and AE. When I turn opengl in AE, I can hear the card working but its slightly slower than normal mode. I tested it with a Core 2 duo 2.13 rig and a xeon 2.0mhz 1333 fsb WS, could it be that the cpu speed is low?

Strange... i don't have any problems with max, only with AE previews framerate...
what are your problems with AE ? because for me, even if when i don't check any Open GL option , the frame rate is unstable, any driver, any open gl settings... and that's all, for the rest all is working pefectly, the stange thing is that i have the same frame rate problem with framecycler, so i really thionk about a drivers problem/conflict, so i get a real parano when thinking to purchase another Quadro FX card, and get really scary to have the same problems...
the weird thing is that with shake i don't have any preview framrate problems (maybe the process is not the same in terms of open gl /ram work tasks...but i don't know)
Aneks, why do you say fire gl are bad stuff ? i've seen that SGI have chosen ATI fire gl for all their new linux workstations, so it does make me think that they are pretty stable and performing cards, don't you ?
i don't know what to do, ATI ? NVIDIA ? (with the risk to have the same bugs cause of bad drivers not fixed ) ?
Did u tried max with a scene over 2 million poly? because it works normal up to 1 or 1.5 million :) ( it should handle over 4 million easly) And i have the same preview framerate problem with AE :(
