Don't want to sound rude but have you read the manual that comes with Vray?

Do you have the vray license server running? when I started using vray I had the same problem and it was because I didn't have the server running. It should be in your max folder you need to copy it to your startup folder so that it runs when you start your computer. If you don't do this you will have to run it from the max folder everytime you want to use it. If it's not that make sure you have skylight checked under enviroment or have a light in your scene. If you are new to vray and you dont want to spend hrs reading the manual this might help you out a bit. http://www.aversis.be/extra_tutorials/00.htm

Vray can't render Gi - you need to use maxwell or mental ray.
