So I'm a noob still trying to get my head around the bsp tree. Even though I hit my head against the XSI DVD set trying to understand it, and have read much of the other material over and over again, for some reason only 80% of it would stick in my head. Well I'm still there in terms of understanding the science of it, but this little gem REALLY helped me:
http://www.lamrug.org/resources/chardiags.html
I found it while looking up mr errors, and the first little bsp snipped has my renders now sailing along! I think from now on I'll be setting up 90% of my final renders with diagnostics alone. The bsp tuning script is cool...but it is so general- my current image I'm working on actully needs setting that are far different than its "safe" recomendation (like a size of 4 and depth of 45 vs. 20 and 22).
Anyway I'm sure it's all old hat to every other XSI crusty dog out there, but for noobs I think this little snippet puts BSP tuning firmly in our hands- even if we don't understand ALL the whys. I know there is a lot more to understand...but every little bsp bit helps.
