no ,

nendo and wings are two similar but seperate softwares.

nendo can be found at:

www.izware.com

and wings:

www.wings3d.com

check the sites for more info.

Nendo was inspiration for Wings 3D. As the story goes: Bjorn wanted to buy a copy of Nendo from Izware but Izware never delivered. So he made his own. Wings 3D has since matured into an app that has features that Nendo didn't.

And a fan base to boot :)

Yes Wings is the better of the two in my opinion as well, offering more primitives, as well better features, Bump comes to mind right off :D , though I must say in defence of Nendo, that I really like the Paint tools of Nendo and only wish that these would find their way to Wings, as well Wings could use a few more options for handling other than simply OpenGL.

Both very good box modelers, thing is- Wings is FREE :D

(No particular order of importance etc)

Tab entry for precise movements etc
Measuring facility.
Virtual Mirror
Extended functionality on standard mirror op
User definable vector based operations (with magnet option) allowing non-orthogonal operations on all supported commands – and facility to define and save default axes
Range of vert deform tools (Inflate/Twist/Torque/Taper/Crumple) – Inflate includes a spherize option.
Tweak mode – Standard / Magnet(with interactive changing of magnet types / influence radius)
Intrude command for easy hollowing out of objects
Far superior selection operators (+ wider range) and more sensible logic (imo – selections stay)
Selection groups and associated operators
Customiseable UI including selected/unselected object appearance and RMB action
Easy hotkey setup
User selectable camera modes with options for changing parameters (clip planes / view angle etc)
Bounding Box commands – often overlooked but extremely powerful and useful
Align
Centre
Default command facility for obtaining often used ops.
Loopcut
Put On
Tesselate
Tighten
Turn
Cleanup
Weld
AutoUV
Plugin architecture allowing others to add functionality (like clacos’ plugins – currently being updated, but extremely useful (return to 9804a to try, output to industry standard renderers, AM output, AI input and others……)

Oh yes – not forgetting Bump, Lift and more prims (including complexity options)

The only modelling command missing from Ndo which (some) people (still) miss is Plane Cut – I used to, but having got used to using Loop Cut …..:)

The above is just a rough / quick trawl off the top of my head – no doubt I’ve missed stuff.
I’ve not forgotten the painting aspect – but I think the way things are going re AUV will please many people – especially if the result is more standard?

Last, but certainly not least – I suspect Ndo is going to stay as it is (could be wrong?) – but to say that Wings is unlikely to experience further development ……well, I think you can join up the dots to that one yourself :)

If you think I’m saying it’s a perfect bit of kit – sorry – it’s not and never will be – but it’s pretty darned good (and still improving) – irrespective of the fact it’s free – that’s just an added bonus (imo).

Pp

Yes, I also agree that Ndo is an excellent app (and good value) – I even managed to eventually buy it – just as well Bj wasn’t as lucky as me, eh?

Mirai has since become bjorns inspiration for development.
Wings is even looking more like Mirai with each release.

Hey, any word on Bjorn adding manipulator handles in future releases, handles that can be turned on and off. I've grown to rely on them over the years.

ya know what? but only a few days ago I would have said nada to the handles suggestion but... since playing around with the shareware version of Metasequoia I have to say that I would be all for these types of options... including toolbars... man, that little box modeler really is sweet... sure it doesn't have some of the cool tools that Wings has, but then again IMHO Wings could use some of the cool things found in Metas.... like multi viewports and handles and better support for moving around heavier poly models... really, these three things IMO would top off what is already a top notch modeler... screw the UV mapping etc, for unless Wings gets full blown shaders/paint tools etc then these things are better off done in a bigger app, but these three things I mention are paramount to even easier modeling... hey, just my opinion... :D

manipulator handles? you mean widgets or handles for modifiers
there is a diference :)

multiple view ports are coming

moveing around models is as easy as aim, rotate and zoom

uv's should be left out? wings exports with all kinds of options to pov and rib, and from what I have heard is one of the fastest and easiest uv makers out there

Well, by manipulator handles I mean a handle or widget that apears upon the component that I select and wish to move, allowing me to grab it and move it, usually with the option of contstraining to one particular axis. In general I mean a translation manipulator as an option to choosing an axis from a menu. I'm well versed in the mirai method of translation and I love the wings implemention of the axis pointer which shows you which way its gonna go. I've just become used to having a handle to grab and was wondering if it will be a future option.
Hope that made sense, no coffee yet.:D

i like manip suggestion...i know wings is popular for its simplicity and clean UI....but something like Mayas "Manipulator Tool" that you use whenever u extrude or bevel or whatever which can toggle between global and world would be much more concise then having to RMB+click and choose between 6 different options whenever you want to constrain something along the axis is irritating.

assign a hot key for it then
you can use 1 hotkey and 3 manipulators alt crtl and shift
thats 4 cmds on 1 key
if your modeling something organic I would stay away from constraints
I use move free and tweak for all my placements

Im about to model a car so my perspective might change suddenly :)

assigning hotkeys seems to be the only way to go for now....

So nobody has heard anything about that one.

Auto-UV inside Wings3d is a jewell, it amazes me every time.
And I know about UVs editing.

Ok, so far from what I have tried trueSpace3 and Anima8or are the onlt two apps that don't change the mesh upon importing from a Wings export...

Metas... almost did alright but produced some tri's along some of the faces... as did several other apps... so is there any secret I need to know about to avoid this tess to tri's thing or what?

Thanks
