View Full Version : Still Life: after the party...
og_reborn 02-09-2003, 06:27 AM well I am starting this still life in anticipation for one of my fav. band's new album!!!:airguitar
it's gonna be like a coffee-table top the day after a mild party/get-together. I have only started the modelling.
That's kind of what the lighting will look like, but there will be a light cast across the table from the other direction that will make it look like morning light coming through closed blinds... ('cause they all have hang-overs!):D
Anyway, please make suggestions for me, and maybe any ideas of what's missing? (well nothing too dirty please.:p )
Big thanks,
adam

oh and hey p.s.
this probably goes without saying, but the logo isn't my design. I think the artist's name was Steve Birch... If you really wanna know. :D
I've seen people get burned on that kind of thing before...

Beuller? Beuller?
C'mon somebody please!
If you don't like it, tell me why! If something's missing, let me know!
It's not terrible enough to get the silent treatment, is it??
C'mon cgtalk!
Here's a small update. I will put in some more shards of glass for the bottle neck. I am running out of ideas of things to put on the table. I want to texture soon. What is bad and what is good?
thanks,
adam:D

I'm guessing everything is on a table cloth?
Fix those harsh creases, and make it more flowing, but it can still be messed up.
I think adding spills here and there would be good, especially on the broken glass / condensation on the beer.
How about some shadows from offscreen venetian blinds? :)
...cast over say, part of the image.
Anyway, good stuff. I like it!

looking good so far... maybe get rid of the table cloth completely and just have a nice dark wooden table or something...
2nd pic looking good as well, seems like you are heading into the right direction. id suggest maybe some more cigarette butts everywhere and maybe an empty pack of cigarettes here and there....

Thanks for the replies!!!!:bounce:
well the thing about the table is... I always kind of got the feeling from their earlier music that they have a hint of psychedelica. I thought it would be cool to have the table itself kind of warping around the logo in an abstract way... but still texture the wood grain to go around the bends. I can see though that it's confusing. I was thinking about adding some more curls and bends in there to help get rid of the idea that it's a table-cloth. Plus, the wood texture will help.
What do you think about that? Or should I really just go for a flat table?
Thanks again for the suggestions. I will definitely add in some spilled beer and a cigarette box.
Thanks again!

p.s. Verti, you have excellent taste.:D

i would go with deformations. this pic should look completly different when textured and with radiosity.

To be honest, i had no idea what all the stuff was laying on top of... until i read the posts... and i was even going for the idea of being cloth, but i'm still confused, everything looks awesome as far as detail and lighting, but i guess the table kinda kills everything else.. i personally think you would go much better with a flat table, make the stuff on top do the chaos for the scene... and maybe use some sort of crazy texture on the table like wooden stripes on top of solid whatever or just a mix of colors... dunno, i guess it makes sense to me... But i think it's looking great so far. Keep up the good work!

I think you should go for the flat table. I think it'd be good with a nice veneered finish, which has been battered to hell, with some coffee cup rings and gouges and stuff.
