Title: I - The Magician ~ Eileithyia ~
Name: Kevin Yang
Country: United States
Software: Painter, Photoshop

This is my next concept art. I used painter to do mostly everything and then color corrected and composited in photoshop.

This is a personal project that I started on July, 2005. My idea is to use the 22 major arcanas in a tarot card pack to derive my concept arts.

This was originally started out as a random doodle, but at the end, I've decided to make her into a concept. Nothing much to say about her but a typical magician type of concept.

Hope you guys will like it. Any comments or critiques are most welcome!

It's pretty good, nice shapes, nice colors. I just think she looks a bit stiff, as well as her hair. One thing that can help you when you draw next ones is to use some garage kits pictures as references. I have some thousnads in my HD and they really transmit all dynamic behavior of anime chars.
I'm looking forward for your next concepts. Keep it up!

That's a really nice painting. The only critique I have is that her right elbow is slightly overextended.

I like the colors in this image a lot. The wand she's carrying is very interesting too, neat shapes. ^^ The clothing design is interesting too, especially the sleeve. Aside from the crits already mentioned, something I noticed is that the sole of her foot is very flat and cartoonish. While some shoes have flat bottoms, there's usually some kind of line to denote that the inner parts have curvature; I think adding this would lend more authenticity to her footwear. Maybe a small heel would make her feet seem more elegant and flowing, like the rest of her clothing. Another small thing, the stiffness of the hair aside, where her hair gathers up into her ponytail, it's seldom so smooth (at least IRL). I think it would make her hair more interesting to add variations where the hair is gathered to make it seem less like the back of her head is a perfectly smooth ball.

Hope this helps. :)

@Akhiris: Thank you very much for the comment, and as for her elbow, I guess it's because I did not really define it properly that's why it looks extended. I will keep that in mind when I do my future concepts.

@inkhana: Thank you very much for the comments and critiques. Now that you have mentioned about the footwear, I totally with you. Same goes with the hair. I have to admit that I still have a hard time trying to paint hair that has a sense of movement and a rythmic flow to it. I just wished that I should have posted some WIP before finalizing it. Since she is done, I don't really feel lke going back to rework on her. Nevertheless, I will keep your critiques in mind when I do my future concepts.

I love the soft lighting & detail in her hair. :D nice, dynamic pose, too.
