View Full Version : Christmas poster, Speed-W.I.P
OKMER 11-09-2006, 08:29 PM Hi folks,
This is a commision for a christmas poster for the the town I'm living in.
It's for his yearly christmas market in december.
I have to finish this by monday evening:deal: :argh: , so I said to myself "let's SPEED-W.I.P it on cgtalk".
Did my sketches directly on my wacom in toshop.
This is an rough set-up of the direction i wanne head.
The buildings in the background and the market in the back will be as close as possible to the real ones here in town so the crowd living here can recognise and be proud of their town.
(that was a bit of the briefing i got).
Hope i can get as far as i can in my idea, while ofcourse respecting the client choices.
Right there I'm working out the characters some more to see if the client likes them.
Ok, gotta go on,:p
Later:beer:

And the litlle animal is the one I'll put in the down left corner.

I think it's really good so far! I love the atmosphere, very cute! Only thing is, I would make it a bit more Christmassy, right now it feels sort of like fairyland... we need more red and white and christmas bells and maybe reindeer horns for the boonchy. :D Also, the people would look cuter with rounder eyes, having them too squinty looking makes them look a little shifty.
As I said before, I really like the way you're going with this, I hope to see more from you!

Thx Paperclip,totally love your work!
You are totally right about the colors, but the client don't want to the tradinionelly christmas colors so much to appear as he would like to create his own personality through the years in this evenement.
Colors I've got to respect are purple, green, some turquoise and fushia/pink.
For the eyes, you are totally right, I should round them some more, to bring back some more the cute thing.
Reindeer hornes are a great idea!!!

Actually, your painting reminds me a bit of the Grinch movie. Have a look at the stills for some ideas??

Love the little purple guy. I'm not a good one to go by cause purple happens to be my favorite color. I did a whole christmas tree once in purple and cream...came out gorgeous, if I do say so myself...heh.
In any case, while the colors don't scream christmas, they do say winter...imo. So just depends on how traditional you want. There are also elements such as frost and snowflakes, bells, and mistletoe that can convey the holiday, too.
I look forward to seeing the development.

Thank you very much Cris&Paperclip.
Me 2 Cris I love purple and tones.
Purple can be cold, purple can be hot,and that's cool,ha,ha.
Indeed these colorschemes are quit winterschemes with some fushia and ornage to warm it up a bit.
By the way ,my client i find him quit funny when he said" ok,listen...I dont want no SantaClaus, neither no Santa Miss.No Red,as less green as possible, but i want a christmas poster",???....ha,ha!!
Anyway, here is more advanced(not finished) stage of the Green Elf holding the "2006" in the right upper part of the poster.
I'm a bit worried, because the client would like a lot of details too in the background and I'm afraid this will not be good for the depth of the pic.
I'll Try some brainwashing on him,ha,ha.

Nice update, Remko. Depending on the kind of detail your client wants, you might be able to build some brushes (are you using Photoshop or Painter?) that could help you quickly add details.
