I have a 3d model (building) built in 3dsmax, where i have animated a camera rotate around it several times, the background of the animation is black, i have rendered all the passes i need, but i can't figure out how to composite somekind of landscape in the background.
any ideas guys??

Did you render an alpha channel pass?

for something like that your best bet would be to render out a seperate BG pass in Max, then composite in AE. trying to track in a huge cyclorama like that is going to be a pretty big task, and you'd probably need some sort of tracking markers all over the background to track to.
or maybe try turning on 3d in AE, and setting up your background layer as a big circle (from the top it would look like a stop sign, with every layer being a flat side. that would be a big pain, you'd be better off doing it in Max.
