PaintFX anf Mental Ray

With the current version of mental ray for Maya, this can not be done, as it does not support Paint FX yet. Hopefully they will support it in later versions.

The only thing you can do is to render everything in mental ray and then the Paint FX stuff separated from the rest of your scene in Maya's renderer, then compose the two things together, but of course this will not give you any global illumination, final gather or anything that mental ray can do in the Paint FX. (Unless you fake it by using any GI faking method - take a look at the www.pixho.com tutorials for some ideas).
