Renaming objects in the outliner?

also you can expand the entire heirarchy by clicking the +
while holding shift, and parent/unparent with MMB

in 4.5 you can rename selected objects by using the quick rename box in the Status Line (the toolbar at the top)

In the outliner double clicking the name works - no need for ctrl. The same also applies in the graph editor and dopesheet. You can also rename in the channel box by single clicking the name, or in the node's attribute editor.
