View Full Version : cache particle outside MAYA?
Hi,
I wonder if particle can be cached outside MAYA? I mean something like writting a batch file to ask command prompt to cache the particle. If this is possible, that would be great.
cheers.

I always thought thats what a particle Disk Cache was for? In the dynamics Menu, under solvers, create a particle disk cache, then it will just read out of the cache instead of dynamically updating it and you can use that for rendering.
Outside of maya, I doubt it, what would you achieve by needing to create it outside of maya instead of just creating it inside of maya and closing it?
Hi Smithjoe1,
I am working on a heavy scene nothing but particle. I have 14 set different particle groups. Some particle groups will pass through camera. Therefore, I need to increase my playback time & oversampling in order to make them look better. And some particle group that far away from my camera will have low playback time & oversampling. All my particle groups are hardware. So, I need to cache them separately.
When I cache some particle together, it is taking me very very long time to finish. I just wonder if I cache them outside like writting a batch file for command prompt. Would it be faster? Same theory as writting batch file for rendering instead of rendering within MAYA.
I hope I make myself clear here.

If your shot is going to be rendered in layers anyway why not break it up and have multiple scene files? Then you can change the oversampling to your hearts content.
Hi mandark1011,
Thank for your suggestion.
I do have 5 layers of particle to split for rendering.
The following is one of the most intense particle group:
leadParticle count (at frame 70): 560 (life forever)
tailParticle average count (at frame 70): 236,000 (lifespan: 1)
camera: static
animation: particles fly toward camera
total frame:100
playback:0.125
oversampling:8
total time for caching this two particle together: about 3hrs
start frame: particle is sitting far far away from camera
end frame: particles cover the whole screen
lead emitter rate is been key in order to produce more particle when close to camera.
If I have few particle group are waiting to queue up for cache... then, I can't go home to sleep at night &
just to babysitter my machines.... so sad~
any cue?
Thank you.
cheers.
