I need to rotate my character and then freeze the transforns at the root. Is there anyway to do that easily in Maya or are there any plugins that may do this OR if all else fails does anyone know the simplest process to get this done manually? Thx.

You cannot freeze bones translations, rotations etc.

You can always make a parent constraint from the bone to a curve-control at the boneposition, move the controller into the posé you want, then freeze it.

If you're dealing with Maya, then you can freeze rotations on the root, as long as it or any of its children don't have any inputs into their rotations. Joints can't be frozen in Translation, but they will reset their Rotates to o,o,o.
