i've just finished a model and rigged it
i want to assign a matrial to it before i bind this, is this necessary or is it ok to do this afterwards?
anyway when i try to assign a material to it now it doesn't get assigned, tho.. there is a message that sais it has been but nothing visual...
all the surounding objects i tried have no problems i can assign materials to them, just not on my model
i have used CPS to smooth the model, hope someone can help me with this...

did you import the model from another application?

also, its not necesary (but preferable) to asign textures or materials to an object before binding if. But, if its a polygone object, you have to check if your UV's have been unfolded or even created, before you bind it or else you'd be binding the object with the UV's history. after you unfoald the UV's you delete its history than bind it.

for example:
Usualy when i work on a model, afte the modeling is done and the UV's are created, I then give the model to the texture guy (my freind) who creates the textures and the shaders while I bind and Rig the character. We then assign all the textures to my final Rig than we animated.!!!

ALso sometimes some polygone faces don't get shaders assigned to them because they have two face on top of each other!!! should check your mesh!!!
