View Full Version : align view with face
bembem 02-08-2003, 10:04 AM Hello everyone,
Is it possible to rotate a user or perspective view so that it faces perpendicularly a given face?
A rather basic thing i think -- any help would be greatly appreciated.

not sure what you mean really. there are some view align cmds in the custom ui you can hotkey and check out.

err I think its pretty clear what hes asking for jadedchron...
bembem, your best bet it to do the opposite and align an object to the view... There isn't anything built into max that I am aware of which will allow you to go the other way... especially to a face...
Depending on your needs... you might also look at normal align..

Thanks for the script, although in v.5 it doesn't seem to work.
Strange that such a useful thing isn't built in though.

Align view to face means: don't move the face; instead, make the viewing-plane parallel to the face.

There is an 'align camera' button in the align button set it lets you align a camera to normal (face direction)
you could then make the camera orthographic or keep it perspective.
