This is my first competition entry, and so of course this is just the concept of my idea.
I havent read the book so I have taken my inspiration from the forums, the web and the inspiration page.
Any pointers of anything that is missing or that is important would be appreciated.

This is the modelling so far, Ive obviously got to model the buildings that hang from the top of the chamber. Any pointers would really help. Along with anything to improve the accuracy.
Crits and commments would be appreciated.

David,
Might be wrong here...and having left my book on a plane sometime in the last two weeks...but the book says something along the lines of...massive structures that look like upright chandeliers...a view which is reinforced by the buildings above Patricia's head seen through two atmospheres...or something like that. My impression (right or wrong) is that these massive structures can be seen due to their size (4km high) and Patricia is close to the axis when she views it. SO when she looks up she is seeing these same structures from another perspective - thus they appear to be hanging from the ceiling relative to her. Remember the chambers are about 50km across and 30km long (my figures are probably wrong but you get the idea - BIG) - which means that there is at the very least 40km between the top of one structure and the top (or bottom depending on your interpretation) of another on the opposite side.
Think drain pipe with the entire interior covered in buildings pointing towards the centre - plasma tube.
Hope that helps...

Actually ive been sort of waiting for somebody to come and correct something, I have changed the megastructures anyway but I will take your advice and make the megastructures a whole lot bigger.

I suppose this is my initial colour pass. Its the initial textured and lit model.
Ive still got a fair bit to do, I want to create a better atmosphere, and make the image a little striking.
Any improvements corrections or anything would be helpful!

Well Ive been bit busy lately and so, here I have a new image in progress, I'll be uploading the initial colour pass of this also inamo.
Then hopefully the rest tomorrow.
I really wish I had done a better job on this but hopefully I shall get this done anyway.

Right this is the new model, which is here lit and textured, not the final setup though by any means and I havent touched photoshop yet.
By the way if anybody was wondering why I changed my concept, I just wasnt pleased with what I had done. (Although thats probably quite obvious!)
I shall hopefully be finishin tomorrow or deadline day!!

You havent uploaded anything for so long I thought you had just not bothered!
This new building and image looks much better man! Have you modelled the whole building?
Chandelier things look good as well!
Keep it up, should be a good image in the end!

Well here it is final composition, after many hours spent creating the other concept. I decided to change, and start again.
As Ive only been working on this really for a short time I have had to downsixe alot, there was going to be around four or five skyscrapers along with the chandelier building thing. Also the chandelier thing was going to be much more elaborate.
In the end though I am quite happy!
P.S does anyone know whether the final image can have your own title in like on this?

So ive just uploaded my print resolution image up and now of course this smaller image too.
By the way just to clarify this is supposed to be in Alexandria with a Chandelier building in the background and in the fore a skyscraper.
Thanks everyone who has helped along the way and maybe I will enter the next competition.
Im certainly not expecting to win anything at all, not with the standard of work thats been produced.
Hope as many people get there image, animation or model in!
Thanks again!

Nice composition!
I have read the book and must say that I actually visualised the chandelier gigantic type building just like that. Have you read the book then also and saw it like me?
Overall its nice and although probably not sci-fi enough or unsual enough, you have done a nice job!
I wish I had joined the compition now but ah well, maybe they will do another sci-fi novel or something else I can relate to!

Although really nothings changed I thought I would just comment on your overall work and entry!
Its good to see that you have had a few different ideas even though it is along the same path.
I think that the final image is a nice image!
Good work all round mate
