this freakin thing is #*$()*(#)$ getting annoying. everytime i go to render (with default renderer) it crashes and asks me to save. it renders all the way and then right after it gets done with the frame it just crashes. it does it with this tutorial this tutorial (http://www.the3dstudio.com/(aqb4ig55gblfri45chhy3u45)/tutorials.asp?id=108&mode=Display&name=Matrix%2DLike+Bullet+Effect+II&ct=FX&author=Bernard+Peh&email=bai%5Fyisheng%40hotmail%2Ecom&url=)

and everytime i import a hi-res model. i just now tried updating to 5.1 but no good. i'm running an athlon, 640 mb ram, gf2 ultra card. heeeeeeeelp! :annoyed: :annoyed:

*EDIT* if that tutorial link doesn't work just goto www.3dstudio.com goto tutorials and then fx. it's the matrix bullet effect mentioned below.

i get thru the tutorial up until the material is applied.. before that it renders fine.

You should really appreciate when max atleast asks you to save :D, usually it dumps you and take all your money and runs away like hell.

hehe well, I just did that tutorial aswell and I encountered no problems. What display drivers are you using?

err are you using 5.1? I know that a lot of people had this problem with 5 but 5.1 fixed a lot of those issues.

Some of my collegues are having the same problem, even with 5.1.

Haven't got a clue what the problem is, it even happens after a clean install of windows / 3dsmax...
Somehow I think it's got something to do with windows, rather then 3dsmax. And since max crashes after rendering, it could be something goes wrong when max tries to save the rendered image to a temp-file.. ( or doesn't max write it to a tempfile? i don't know )...

Aw, jadedchron...I'm so glad that helped solve the problem. As for everyone else....You scare the poop out of me. Eveybody's got me all uptight about max 5.1.

It has'nt given me any problems yet....yet....That's a scary word. I so hope it does'nt bite my in the butt on my next project...(sigh).

I'm also having crashed renderings in max 4.
my only advice is render to IMAGES like JPGs so that you could continue to render from the same spot it crashed.
after you are done with all the JPGs you can turn them into an avi file or whatever with the video post.

Instead of .jpgs, you may want to render to a LOSSLESS file type like .tif

That way you can actually compress it once compiled.
