View Full Version : Character and Sdene: Devil Boy
Waters 02-08-2003, 02:17 AM Whats up out there? Give me some crits! This is not near completed, this hallway is completely unfinished. Soon it will have lockers, doors, it will be a bit larger, and should look like the hallway of a school. At the end of the hallway is a window (which you cant see in this angle). This is all done with maya.

This is a sweet character and a cool concept.
The only thing I would change is I would make the mouth and eyes look more sinister.
It's a top notch picture and I love the horns
Hope I was of some Help
Cheers

are you going for a cartoony look or realistic?

Sort of cartoony, its meant to be very stylized. I guess I just thought there would be something comical about the devil in a private high school. I had an idea that I would show him holding a wrench, and show water leaking all over the floor, and perhaps call him "Devil Child" or something, but now i dont know. Maybe its just enough to complete the rediculous scene of the devil in a shirt and tie, standing in a school hallway. I dunno.

I like the new render he looks more devious at that angle.
(Like he just flushed a cherry bomb down the toilet)

Haha, thanks for the reply, and maybe the idea. I had been thinking that I might put a pipe running a long the wall that he had opened, and then flooded the hallway, but maybe Ill put a bathroom door at the end of the hallway, and show water rushing out?
Hey that'll work and if its a school you might want to make it look a little more dingy and put tile on the floor instead of hard wood I remember my school and it looked like crap.
The ideas you wrote are great though use some of them and it'll be awsome. Misschif is a wonderful thing. (Sorry bad spelling.)

I personaly would make the hornes a bit smaller, maybe even as much as 40%-50% smaller.
The collar on the shirt looks a bit to ridged, like it still have the cardboard in it.

I agree completely with the collar. The picture shows it just after being modeled, which as a side-noted I found insanely difficult.. does anybody know of a good tutorial for modeling shirts with collars?, so the details aren't there yet. I needed to do a lot of tweaking with the shirt to make it look more loose and fabric-like on him. As far as the horns go, Im not sure what to do with them. I dont think they look quite right, but I'm not sure if its just that they need to be scaled down, but I'll test it out. Thanks.

where's that light coming from? it looks like the light source is at the window but it's creating a halo all around the end of the hallway. Try making a spot light outside the hallway so that the light enters through the window and creates strong shados for a dramatic effect, then fill the dark places with lights inside the hallway to see how it looks

Hey, thanks for the comment. actually this is lit using the mental ray (free) plugin. There is one low level light to the left of the light illuminating some of the face, to pull out the details, and not pareticipating with the mental ray photons. The window at the end of the hallway has a plane that is illuminating the hall through bounced light using final gathering. Right now I have that illumination set to decay linearly. That is what is causing the bright "halo" at the end of the hall. I will be getting rid of that, and possibly the fall off depending on how it looks. Sorry about now recent posts on this project, a friend of mine died .
