It's not really glass. There's no cockpit on him That's a sensor grid made of metal. This shader was made on Maya. but if it really looks like a default from some other program, I guess I'll change it up a bit. Maybe on the specular.
here's a question I've had for a while. Should a guy make up detail for detail's sake, and because there's too much smoth surface visible, or should one stay loyal to the original design even though it looks a a little plain in 3d? The original character has no grunginess to map, and has no more little grooves and things than I modeled in, as far as i can recall. It does look like it;s missing something tho.
that is something u should choose to do for urself. Think about it like this, what do i want with the model? do i want it o be as realistic as possible, meaning i have to leave out some detail i would have liked to add? Or do i want to make it as i see it in my head?Realistic and fairly true to the original design, but with some added "spice".?
Those are the things u need to ask urself. I think its already looking awesome, but again, if u add something that makes it look even better, why not do it, if u think itll improve it? :)
ED-209 is my favorite sci-fi 'villian'
I have a vynil kit of ED-209 that I've been summoning up the courage to build for the last ten years, maybe soon...
...as for your model, the biggest flaw I can see is that the 'head' part is way too big for the 'arms' and 'legs'. The legs especially need to be a lot bigger and chunkier. One of it's 'toes' is near enough the same size as it's 'shoulder pad' so I think you have a lot of basic re-proportioning to do.
There is a public domain mesh of ED-209 at 3dcafe.com
Here's the link
http://www.3dcafe.com/asp/scifi.asp
Download it and use it as scale reference.
As for grunginess, my vynil kit has a photo still from the movie on the side and there is a lot of 'grunginess on the bottom of the 'shin' part. There is also a lot of detail in the model.
Have a look for some more reference mate.
