View Full Version : Hovering Effect
ShwayMan 02-07-2003, 10:02 PM I'm attempting the hovering robot effect from www.dvgarage.com in the tutorials section, and it's just not working. They say to use noise on a dummy object to control the motion of the robot, but when I try to do that the dummy box just wiggles but the robot doesn't move. Is there a way to make the whole box move with noise to get this hovering effect? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Did you link the robot to the dummy?
Also, you can play with the noise settings to make it look better.
Another thing you might want to do is to make 2 dummy objects. One with the noise controller, and one that has nothing effecting it.
So the unaffected dummy would be the parent to the whole robot, and then the dummy with noise just does it's thing over in a corner somewhere.
Then you could apply a link constraint controller to the parent so you could transition from "floating" to sitting still by animating the influence between the world position and the noise dummy.
Just some thoughts.

I tried that. I made 2 dummies. The out one was a general position dummy and the inner one was the noise dummy. I connected the noise dummy to the position dummy and the robot to the noise dummy, but the noise dummy just deformed from the noise instead of moving.

Are you using a noise CONTROLLER, or a noise MODIFIER?

Hmmm, modifier. I didn't know there was a distinction. I'll look for it. Thanks!
