View Full Version : Painting weights Problem
LSayan 11-04-2006, 06:56 AM Does anyone know why this happens?
I have been painting weights on a character and sometimes I find that the verticies are moved out into space. I can not undo the weights painted and I can not replace the weigths painted. In the picture attached the foot is separate from the leg, and I am trying to paint the weights in order not to get a gap between the leg and the foot. Does any one have good advice on how to avoid this problem or on how to properly paint weights?
any help is appreciated :)

When you smooth bind I believe there is an option that says to maintain max weights. I'm not so sure what happens under the scene but I believe if you have this set, you should really only be adding weights because if you remove weights its going to gather influence from other joints in order to maintain the setting.
Usually I get into a workflow of only painting weights in very small amounts (overweighting) , starting from one spot on the body ie the arm, paint past the arm, then switch joints and paint over that spot that was overweighted then rinse/repeat.

Thank you for the reply and the suggestions.
I am still trying to fix the problem of painting weights. I am currently a senior in college and I noticed that when I work at the computers in the labs at school that my painting weights don't go crazy. When I go home and paint weights is where the problem starts. Im trying different things, but as so far I haven't gotten anything to work at home.

Make sure your brush weight is under 1.0 and check read the help docs for normalize weight. That might have something to do with it.
