View Full Version : simple question
ZippZopp 02-07-2003, 07:22 PM I just downloaded the Maya PLE, and i'm going through their tutorial thing. I'm at the animation section and i'm told to make a cube, scale it to look like a door. I'm able to scale and rotate with those respective tools, but the move tool simply doesn't work, i get a purple box at the bottm which says, "Warning: Move Normal works on NURBS control vertices and mesh vertices. Change tool options to move any selected objects." what exactly have i done wrong here? i know its probably some stupid easy question, but i'm kinda lost. thanks

Double-click on the move tool to change its options.
One of the choices is in what coordinate system you want to move things. "Object" means that the axes of the move tool should point along the object's own axes. "Local" means that the axes should point in the direction of the object's parent's axes, if it's parented to something. "World" means that the move tool axes should point in the world-space X, Y, and Z directions. Finally, "Normal" means that the axes should be along the surface's U and V parameters and in the direction normal (perpendicular) to the surface.
Since this last option doesn't make any sense unless you're moving individual control vertices of an object (as opposed to the entire object itself) Maya gives you a warning that reminds you that "Move (in) Normal (space)" only works when you have individual points picked in component mode. (I've inserted the words in parentheses to keep you thinking about what "Move Normal" really means to Maya...)
