CGTalk - Old Tree character

Hey everyone,
This is a Valentines day card I'm working on for my wife. The outside of the card will have this image (when its finally finished), with text that says "There is but one with whom I wood spend Valentines Day" and on the inside of the card it will say, simply... "Yew" (A Yew is actually a species of tree, in case the terrible pun was lost).

Anyway, I wanted to share my initial sketch with the forum. I'll post progress soon. Comments and suggestions a re welcome.:wavey:

Nice sketch man....you're wife will love it....me being single I enjoy valentines even more....I don't have to spend money...hehe

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. I'll share further progress soon.

Right now it is planned only as a 2d Valentines Day card for my wife. However, I may eventually model it, as I'm really intrigued by that idea, especially after seeing the Ent characters in the movie, Lord Of The Rings - The Two Towers. I fell in love with those Ents. They were actually the inspiration for the card idea.;)

Here's phase 2. Much of the color and texture is in place, but still some work to be done. I changed the background to a bit more cheerier tone, although I'm still going to add some texture and other elements to it. I also added the heart with my and my wife's initials carved into his horehead. Anyway, I'm fairly happy with the progress, but I still want to try a few other things. Comments encouraged.:)

Here's the finished piece, along with the image that went on the inside of the card. She cried when I gave it to her. Many thanks for everyone's positive and helpful comments. Happy Valentine's Day to everyone.:D
