Dusten S. Sonnon is entered in the "Eon Challenge" update: View Challenge Page (http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/eon/view_entries.php?challenger=12373)

Latest Update: Final composite and colour timing: sky background

My idea takes place from within chamber four. The Nature Chamber, as it were. The POV is on an island, looking up through the trees and past the cliffs rising through the canopy to reveal the opening of a huge door, as if the sky itself were opening up. If anyone has any ideas, suggestions, or wants to alert me to any similarities to any current projects, feel free to drop me a line. Thanks.

I like this perspective a bit more, but I think everything is too cramped. What would happen if we eliminated the right side and added something else? I think the wirror image of the composition is good, but I don't think it's working here. Hmmm, I'll keep working on it.

I think I like this version. I know it will change during painting, owing to sudden bouts of inspiration and occurance of 'happy accidents', but I like the composition on this. It gives it a sense of scale and grandiosity that was missing previously. Wish me luck.

This is a good start. I feel like the doorway is getting lost amongst all of those trees and rocks. It's hard to tell what it is at this stage, but I do feel that your first comp is stronger just because we can see more of that massive door in the distance. Either way you choose, I look forward to seeing your progress on this one.

Does anyone else have some opinions? I think it would be good to start a dialogue about this one. It's an interesting challenge of a composition!

I agree with Nath about the door getting lost. Perhaps, you could have the front trees silhouetted byt the light coming from the doorway?

Good Luck!

Thanks for the feedback. I think I may have fixed it a bit by freeing up some space. I'll post an update soon, and hopefully it will be an improvement.

And yeah, it's going to be atmospheric with some emphasis on light source. If it turns out halfway as good as it looks in my head right now, I'll be pleasantly surprised. Good luck all.

just working out some colors and light sources. Outlined things to delineate them for viewers and myself as well. Trying to keep it uncluttered and clear

I tried freeing up some more sky and took away some of the distractions from the bottom of the page which were feeling unnecessary, as the focus is the door in the sky and not the trees at the bottom.

Your latest composition definitely works better than the earlier ones. You may want to vary the heights of the various elements to add more depth to it, though. So, for example, having the tree in the foreground be smaller, and also the large rock on the left, so it looks further away. Getting some appearance of distance among the foreground elements would add to the impression of immensity for the "door" in the background.

starting to render. Hopefully this will clear up any difficulty with interpreting the composition. I think it's coming along rather nicely so far. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. It was nice to have a day off with which to work on this image.

rendering the cliffs. The one on the right may need to be faded off into the background a bit more. The bottom of the cliff on the left doesn't really need much detail as it will be mostly overlapped by the tree, but I'll still put some in anyway. Thanks to all for the kind and helpfu comments. Keep it up!

Its nice to see ur development of that environment. Many artists show us just an outline and than rendered image, but here its a whole procedure. Keep it up! The colors also look great!

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I have been busy making stuff for people for the Holidays. Anyways, after several attempts, I think this one looks the best. I may need to do more to it, I don't know. I have a habit of never being staisfied with my stuff. Let me know what you all think. Cheers!
