CGTalk - sparkle effect

ok I'm new to AE, so I'll try to explain this as best as possible.

I need to create this flashing sparkle effect, non 3-d. For example, if I was casting magic using a wand or something and the wand cast out these flashes/sparkles.

Is there a way to do this in AE? if so how?

any kind of particle simulation plugin will do that. you cans use the plugins that ship with AE including the CC particle FX. but the most intuitive and best plugin is trapcode´s particular.

i think in AE 7 there's even a built-in preset for magic wand sparkles.
