View Full Version : Not really a rigging problem in C4d ... i think

I modelled a platypus in C4d (and i am real produ of the model, nearly no traingles and the eyes are very good [in my opinion ;) ]).

Now i started with rigging the comic character with this tutorial:
http://www.der-webdesigner.net/index.php?action=tutorials&s=c4d_animation&t=rigging_mocca2_2

Quite good, but i got a few questions. In the attachements i have zipped the complete scene, thats the easiest way to find a problem.

It is possible to move the knee bones in a new position? the leg isn't stretched but when i stretch it, the whole leg bends backwards. I just want to stretch the bones when Byran (thats the name of the platypus) stands still so it cant bend backward.

When moving the controller backwards the toes are snapping off. Looks weird. Why that?

When i switch the HyperNurbs on the performance of the scene goes on vacation and only leaves sometimes a short notice. Is that normal because the bones affects the high polycount model?

What about the number of the polys in the base model? High enough? Does the leg need some more edges?

Any further hint would be great but i think the bone setup isnt that bad.
Thanks for reading and helping!

EDIT:
Maybe some of the probles are caused because the legs are just to thick and to short? Could be creating problems when moving (overlapping polys and things like that) or just looking bad.

You might want to ask this in the C4D forum. Most people her work in Maya or XSI, I think.

First, I would set all my bones in the entire character before I started rigging. And your hierarchy is a little weird. You've got bones kind of everywhere.

Should be:

Null
Geometry
Bones

Then all of your controllers should be out side of that. I think your Right Foot Controller has too many things going on. Ideally, you'll want to grab the Foot Controller and work everything off of that. Not grab a bunch of other controllers all the time.

You can set up sliders for toe and foot roll to make that easier.

I'm no rigger, but I hope these "tips" help!

Thanks for the hints! I cahnged it according to that, but the big issues arent solved yet.

Controller: I only move the R_Foot_Controller, all objects inside this Null are moved with it to get a stable bone chain.

EDIT:
Maybe someone can move this to the c4d forum? Thanks!

I still think your foot/leg rig is a little overcomplicated. Let me see if I can rework some things to show you what I mean.

I haven't used MOCCA in a while. I've been using Cactus Dan's CA Bundle. HIGHLY recommended.

OK. Well, I think the best thing you can do is download the Raven rig from here:

http://www.c4dportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=147

Take a look how it's set up and how organized the rig is. Mike (Slouchcorp) also has some great rigging tuts for MOCCA. I would check those out, too.

Great link! I will have a closer look the next days! At the moment i am trying different tutorial to determine the best way.

CD tools are allready on my "you must have this list" but 250$ ...

EDIT:
I read that the c4d Mime Tutorial must be very good! any idea where i can find this? It is not in the Mocca manual one or two.
