Hey gang, I finally decided to install the Windows Vista (Release Candidate 1) onto my work machine last night and had a chance to give painter a shot.

My overall experiance was pretty great. Vista gave Painter a new User Interface look , as far as the functionality goes, it's pretty much the same as on Windows XP. The only major difference I seen is that it loads a little faster on vista.

If you do decide to upgrade to RC1 of Vista, (Availabel for free from Microsoft - But expires July 2007) You will have to download new Wacom Drivers for the Vista (RC1) available on the wacom website. Your windows XP drivers will not work properly (Pressure sensitivity will not work.

A cool thing that happened once I installed the Vista drivers for my wacom is this nifty pressure sensityvity circle that appeared around my mouse curser when Ipressed down with my stylus. This took place inside and out side of Painter. It's a new feature thats included inside of Vista, they seem to have added a lot of tablet support.

Also with in a few seconds of connecting my tablet, a nice screen popped up with Tablet training. Vista has a buit in system that allows you to quickly use the new OS and browse by using only your tablet. Actually pretty cool.

I took a few screenshots to show you guys, but havent figured out how to upload them yet to my website using Vista. The (my network places) which I rely on to do most of my FTP work has changed totally. I will do my best to upload the images today once I figure out the new network places.

PS: One downfall of Painter on Vista is that when it launches the welcome screen is missing the binder rings image in the middle. Thats the only bugI found so far.

I'll post back soon with the pics.

thats very cool! But i guess theres no Real big difference between Painter on XP and on Vista.. ? So why buy a very expensive OS just because its a bit prettier? :)

Is it me or is Windows starting to look more and more like Apple's interface?

Yeah , it's looking more and more like OS X , lol.

I got rid of vista. After the initial WoW factor, I started noticing a lot of slow downs and inpepfections. I went back to XP classic mode.

Vista's a 64 bit OS, right? Just a guess here, but unless there is now a Painter 64 bit, you were only running in 32 bit emulation mode?

If so, Vista's true potential for Painter will not be evident until Corel does Painter 64 bit.

So why should Painter users bother with Vista right now? Besides the extra memory limit, of course.

Yeah Vista's a 64 although they do have 32 versions as well. I have a 64 bit processor but couldn't install the 64 version cause my 32 XP couldn't read the files , lol. Had to install the 32.

Id just hang back until the next version of Painter comes out before purchasing Vista .. hopefully by then the price of Vista falls and any bugs are ironed out.
