View Full Version : How to do this in max? (probably easy)

Okay, i've been modelling a bmz Z4 using a splinecage with a surface on top of it and then a meshsmooth (lvl 3) on top of it. This gives me the following results which are pretty good (for me ;)):

Now... i need to add the windshield, the windows, the headlights etc. etc. Those should ofcourse fit in exactly. But... how do i do that? Any ideas? Suggestions? I tried to fit them in and then detach them, but then it's all screwed up after the meshsmooth.

Help!

you might want to just make the spline cage form a rough mesh and convert to editable poly then add the rest of the details there

I don't get that to work actually. I've tried it but it won't fit in as good as i would like it to be. :S...

yeah i don't see why you wouldn't just conver to epoly then detach the edge loop.. then work with the extraction

Hmmm, well if you have the a blueprint I suggest epoly. It is easy and simple and good for newbs, try that tut at the top of this forum it shoudl REALLY help you. :)

To get those pieces to fit, you should
1) make a copy of the current spline cage....
2) remove all splines except the one that outlines the window
3) add new splines to make that spline outline a valid surface
4) reapply surface modifier to the new cage etc

by using the original mesh's spline as part of the window spline, the window's edges will match up the edge of both objects...

hope this helps

Okay, i did those steps. Made a nice spline headlight, surface on top of it. And then a level 3 meshsmooth again. But the meshsmooth smooths the cornes of the spline different then the corners on the total car, which means that the headlight doesn't fit into it's place as perfect as it should be. Any suggestions?
