beautiful!! :applause:
my 1st attempt at a viper gts was horrible...I hope to model the 2001 gts-r concept (see my avatar) when I find some decent references.
the only viper dashboard photo I have is of the 2003 srt-10
one crit though, the bottom of the nose of the car seems to sweep back too far at the fog lights, that particular part of the curve is more vertical than that..
I'll post a pic when I get a chance to take one..
otherwise..KICKASS!!:buttrock:

thanks guys :)
viper11885 - thanks for interior images (that big one would be very useful)
wintermute - can you outline me that area wich isn't quite same like on real car ? I saw only one Viper in my entire life so i'am doing my best by looking at reference images (i have plenty of them but it's hard to recognize what year are modles and there is so many body kits on that car that it's hard to find 2 images of same car :)). thanks (you can mail me that if you have time).

Stupid racing stripes... ugly damn things... stick with red! Or better yet, make the coup with the moon roof and fangs, and SILVER like in the TV show! Yeah!
Lewis3D
02-24-2003, 03:37 PM
Hehe
aor - thanks for reminding me about pedals - i will add them (i hope that i will fins soem resource images where i can see padals)
so far i have blue / vlue with stripes and red suggestions so black is rule dout for now :).
ThirdEye_01 - yeh i will test it on blue striped version but problem is that this is RT/10 model and i didn't see that color on them ? Most of GTS versions are blue with stripes but RT/10 not :). But since it's 3D everything is possible without too much problems ;).
Gnarly Cranium - I will try RED one for sue (thanks for one more vote at red ;)).

Lewis: Damn nice man. But the front of the car isn't wide enough. The sides don't bulge out as much as they should, it looks too straight. I think it would look better if you pulled them out a little bit. Overall this is an extremely nice car.. damn.
Also, I have been admiring your work for a while, and was wondering if you had some good resources on rendering/lighting/texturing cars. I have a car completely modeled, but i suck at everything but modeling, so my renders look like shit. Any suggestions?
Oh yes, and I think the classic midnight blue, or black with white race stripes would be awesome!

hi Lewis. glad to see you doing a viper. I happen to own one of these, a 93 RT/10, which is the exact same as a 92 (since only 500 92's were built from my recollection, all red). I can take photos of mine from any view you require, though i realize the web prolly has every view you need.
on your dashboard, it is entirely way too tall. it is thinner and everything is a bit tighter and bigger. the gauges should all be white. your stick and e-brake are way too small, as well as the center of the steering wheel. also your speedo/tach/info cluster look angled down to the floor, not up at where the driver head is. the rear view mirror is the incorrect shape and is mounted to the glass with a rounded post, not a square tube connected to the header. there is also a cable that runs from the rear view mirror into the header to power the lights in it. the visors are incorrect as well, but those look unfinished to me. the door handles on the inside, those darker grey buckets, are too big and not quite the right shape. and please don't forget to add the roof attachment points. every Viper RT/10 model i see seems to forget a roof goes on this thing and doesn't add it in.
on the exterior, the nose seems to come to a point, very sublte, but it notice it. but it should be totally smooth. also this inside of the headlight that leads to the cutline across the hood should be totally round.
anyways, i don't mean to be critical and all as you are doing a great job, but she's my baby, and i just want to see you do her awesomely perfect. if you need anything, lemmie know. mine is a bit rough around the edges, but that's cause i drive the hell out of it unlike some owners. do a render in black for me when the time comes. :)

Wow guys many helpful replyes :)
Jerridb - i know what are you think but that might be 'coz wierd angles and not rendered imges. Car front must be at least 99% correct 'coz as you can see at FIRST images it's layed down on blueprints. I even measured blueprints to be exact size of car (i have measurmenrts in inches and meters). So if that isn't wide enough then manufacturer made mistake in numbers :).
About rendering i don't have any tutorials on that subject -i just test render over and over untill i'am happy ;).
stecki - nice to see finaly someone who drives that beast :). You probably know bwtter than me since i never see that car (once for 5 seconds on road ;)). But i can argue about guages - They are BLACK on some cars 'coz my resource car have them BLACK - aslo licens plate is form that car :). So that will stay black. I will try to resize gearstick and handbrake since they are probably a bit too small as you said (you know best for sure). I didn't add roof atachment since that part ins't required on model so far. But if you have some good images please send me them so tha ti can see where they are. Sterring wheel is changed in that car what i modeled so maybe that is reason why it looks different but to me it looks prety accurate to that what i have on reference images ? Pointy nose is just on first WIP images (on those RED latest screengrabs i noticed that also and corrected but i didn't make newer screengrabs last night.
So if you have any good images please send me tham to my e-mail, most appreciated - I will make black render probably but i will focus on RED one 'coz i already have black cars in my portfolio :).

That model is looking great!
For color, I recommend avoiding those racing stripes. They look tacky. =|
I would go with a metallic sky blue/grey.

god, I love the viper.... nice lookin' model, cant wait to see some rendered views with materials and maybe even an environment. Got any tips for us other modelers?
Lewis3D
02-25-2003, 04:27 AM
Thanks guys !
Gremiln - what tips do you need ? I can give oyu tips for modeling very fast (just send you link for my interactive car tutorial :)). Tips for rendering would be - make it like in real world :). By that i mean that you really need to look close at real world images and see how reflection and colors are looking under lights. And remeber - no car will be realistic if you don't have environment wich will be reflected on car paint (even if is just white planes but soemthing must be or car will look flat).

are you sure its that narrow!?
that's really narrow, especially the front end. i know you did it from blueprints, but if you look at pictures, it seems that the fron end juts out a bit more.
just a suggestion, as i am making a viper too :D

Hehe :)
Like i said i have measurments form car manufacturer brochure (where ar eincluded blueprints) and it says this :
car is 75.7" (192.27cm) wideat his widest point and he is 43.9" (115.50cm) tall. I writed all measures in modeler and made one BOX object. After that with "auto Fit" option you have sized blueprints to match BOX. From then i just made splines on those measurments. If they write it wrong then it is wrong i don't know what else could be. Look at first images what i posted - there you can se blueprints under model (you can see black outlined line wich proves that car is fiting very well to dimensions (i would say it's 99% accurate to that blueprint :).
cheers
Can you show me your Viper ? Maybe there is some diference in size between RT/10 and GTS models ??
b1m2x3
02-25-2003, 05:15 AM
thats cool that you go by the measurments.... i was just bored one day, so i thought of a cool car and got blueprints and started patching. i have no clue what model viper or anything... im just making it so it looks good in my eyes :D

Lewis: Very cool model. Quality stuff coming from you :) When can we see a wire? =)
Anyway - I'm sitting here with a Viper brochure and see that the interior is different from yours. I guess it's because yours is an older model. I would somewhat recommend you tweaking to the interior I have in front of me. It's far more stylish and has a hell of a nicer feel to it than the older one.
It's a 2 page picture and I can scan it for you if you want to have a look at it. I also have a close up front shot of the gauges and a top down view into the cabine but the whole car is visible.
Just say if you want them and I'll scan them for ya.
Other than that it's an awesome model and can't wait to see some renders of it :)
I love the Viper too, which is a nice bonus to my nick ;)

Damn Lewis taken on the viper this round, very nice looking, Racing Stripes are cool,, viper looks great with them.
the model looks pretty close to me, I like the coupe more though, but this would be prolly better for showing off interior modeling tallent. keep up the good work bud.
Lewis3D
02-25-2003, 06:05 PM
Hehe Thanks Guys :)
EightDecay - i'll try to keep good work :). ia'm tweaking surfaces now so updates will probably be on Gallery section :)
Viper.dk - Yes i agree that new Vipers have nicer interior but since this one is 1992 i can't change it to year 2000 or 2003 ;). Then it wouldn't be 1992 model anymore :). But thanks for ofering help anyway. IF you have time please scan blueprints and that brochure and send me images to mail - i never can have too many blueprints :).
Viper.dk
02-25-2003, 09:07 PM
Lewis: If you have your heart set on the 1992 model, then there's not much use of the pictures I have, I can see that :)
I you ever want to do the newer version of the RT/10 or GTS, let me know :) The brochure sadly doesn't offer any blueprints :I Only some good quality (and big) pictures of various parts of the car and such.
Haven't seen the older model in detail, the gear shift and hand breake seems awfully thin compared to the pictures I have and in general. I would think they'd break when trying to control a 450 hp car with the amount of torgue the Viper has :)
