that is something I'm getting more and more tired of, the knife tool would really come into its own if c4d could handle ngons,
I wonder if they're watching?
hmm
OI, MAXON, GIMME NGONS

you all seen the new boole shots that srek showed us? arent they sorta using ngons (hypernurbs didnt deform after using it, and the wire of the 2 object booled without the HN looked like it had ngons..)... or maybe not..

I already asked about it, they didn't use ngons it seems... I hope they add ngons support soon, i think they're losing a lot of possible customers because of this lack. Btw i know it will be difficult to add ngons support because the system would need to involve both editor and render  If only they added it when they released R6...
ok, i really have to ask now, what are ngons basically? whats so good about them?

hi j00st81
The job is easily done with Arndtīs "Edge Extrude"
Look there (http://www.creativecow.net/dairy_store/affiliate_programs/arndts_plugins.html)

If you have R8,this is pretty easy to do with the edge tools...
As my web space provider won't let me directly link to images,
I uploaded a quick and dirty web page to show how it can be done.
You can find it here (http://members.lycos.co.uk/mrdaftie/daftie/C4D/quickie.html).
If you're a R7/R6 user,you can still do this,but I think it'd require alot of add point,
bridge,add point operations.
Hope this helps tho :)

Nice!!!
Somehow the Edge Ring and Edge Loop don't work as i was expecting... compared, for instance, with Wings 3D.
The manual is a bit vague about it.
Does that make any sense to you? Is there any other place where i can get some more info about it?

Generally,I find that the edge ring is pretty much the same as in wings,
unless I've got some really funky curves and stuff,
which sometimes gives me problems...
Only thing I can recommend, and what I did,
was take models from wings, import in C4D,
and keep both apps open and looked at how they both act with the same geometry.
Other than that,I really have no idea...don't model much in Cinema anymore :)
Oh,and about doing this in R6/R7,
I'd get Saw...makes it MUCH easier :)
Just select the "face ring" you wanna cut,
and use either saw or the knife tools to cut in edges.
Hehe...guess I've been getting too used to edge tools when I can't even remember using the knife :)
