View Full Version : Blend shapes, HELP!

I am working with blendshapes in Maya 4.0. I've created half a polygon head, and also the half heads I want as targets. When I blend my origional half head with my targets, everything works fine. However, after I duplicate the other half and connect them, making a full head, my blend shapes go nuts. Among other things, the target head moves into the place of the origional head. Nothing I've done has fixed this. I've deleted history before blending, etc. Anybody have any ideas?

oh guy! this is your first time doing blendshapes I guess :p

well, when you´re duplicating the halves of heads, it seems the id-numbers of vertices are different from those of original head. So the result is a vertex chaos when you turn blendshape to 1.

The easiest way to solve this, could be using Reconstruct Mesh Tool, you can download from highend3d.com

and the tec-simple way is to make basic head (both halves) and then modify both halves for each blendshape target. but it´s kind´a slave work :(

if you have a simple mesh, you could copy just one half of modified head and mirror it under second not modified half. Then with vertex snapping copy the shape of the model underneath.

no other advice from me :hmm:

Sorry, I know how it feels to go down a road and end up having to restart.

Yeah, you would think that the majority of work could be saved by working with halfs (I do this alot).

CVs and Vtx have numbers, and you cannot change those counts after a certain point in modeling (hence the warning Maya gives you about tweaks having undersirable affects). One thing that has helped me is scripts from highend3d.com that will mirror your adjustments. But even these have their limits.

Thanks for the info guys. Hehe, you were correct, it's my first time using blendshapes. I didn't realize they are so picky!

Hi there! I've downloaded the Reconstruct Mesh Tool v1.0 which on Highend says it's for 4.x

However I can't get it to work on my 4.5

Does anyone have a 4.5 version? or a similar tool?
Thank you!!!
