View Full Version : No support for Alpha's in Motion Blur or DOF?
this is correct...a way around it would be to shape your geometry to match your alpha.

Apologies if this has been brought up before. I didn't find it when I searched.
Am I right in thinking that objects who's visibility is controlled by an alpha matte in their texture will not render correctly with vector motion blur or depth of field?
For instance, I created a plane and mapped a texture with a circular gradient in the alpha. Behind it, I placed another plane with no alpha.
From the multipass output, I can see that the plane with the circular alpha still appears as a square shape in both the vector motion blur and the depth output.
I then tried these renders as composites and noticed that essentially the same thing was happening. Even though the plane in the foreground appears as a circle, it's motion blur is applied as a square, and therefore onto the object behind it as well.
Is this correct? Is there a way around this?
Many, many thanks for any suggestions.

I'd love to, but the alpha's a video file!

I think we probably have to wait for the next release of Advanced Render to sort out these alpha problems. I am hoping this is now a top priority.

Try with zBLUR or enDOFinare 2 plugINs that let you use motion blur and DoF together, but they also implement the use of alphas.. if I am not wrong.

Thanks, Epici. I didn't know these were out there. Obviously these handle the dof issue. Is there a way to use them for motion vectors? I couldn't think of one.
Thanks,
W
