tehyeh: i like your piece. i think the matte painting skills you show here are very very good. i think the model is excellent and the animation pretty good...for me it still needs some lighting and integration work. It feels like it almost belongs there.
with the sky so blown out white, it is difficult to get a feel for where the shadows belong and their intensity. in every opening there is a very very intense black shadow. but they lack direction, since we dont know where the sun is. same with the stryker, it has a general black area below it which could make sense but with the white sky...we dont know. Id lighten that shadow up, so we can see hints of the ground elements in the closer shot.
i think the cut on the explosion was a very good idea...clever.
good luck on your future crazy photoshop adventures~

very nice.. very..
i like ur intro.. goes well with what ur actual reel.
nice modeling of ur vehicle... nice texturing too...
for the first shot, i am guessing u used a still image, maybe u could've used camera projection to make it more... natural.. but it's minor and i might be wrong...
i couldn't hear the sound because my speaker is broken but even without sound it just grabed my attention.
very well done and good luck with ur job hunt if u haven't got it yet.

this is front page material IMO! audio and video works well!
5!
Awesome piece Teh. Im with Josh on the tank feeling too seperated and lighting up the shadows a bit. You did afreat job with the over cast post-apoco/war zone look, so you have a great stale feel to it, but the shadows are too crisp and dark. As for the tank, I'd just bump down the contrast on it by 5% or so to blur it just a smidge in all the shots save the intro. It'll still pop infront of the background.
That intro you have is freaking stellar man, one of the best demo intros ever IMO. Bullets are a bit too chromeo for me, I'd tone that down a smidge in post if you can, maybe a tiny tiny bit of blurred grain too to kill the 100% clean look, but it's awesome man. *high five*

Teh, congrat! man, you have an awesome piece.
I used to have a feeling about the 1st shot too, for me it was kinda "flat", but I argued with myself and tried to find an explanation about it, and with the camera zooming in... it would look "flat", right? So that was my conclusion and I thought may be it was just my feeling, so I didn't mention it to you... anyway, if you seek to fix this piece, I'd say the 1st shot but I can't go more specific, sorry man.
And for the explosion shot, I really like it and you've done a good movement of the camera (also the effects), good job!
Man...this is amaaaaaaaaaazing, no doubt this is frontpage material:thumbsup:.
Oh, Really! (Haven't come in here for a while) , Congrat!

Roughy:
Thank you, I am very grateful of your kindness!
dutchtilt:
I set up the scene with heavy overcast, where the viewer would not know the time of day, perhaps also hinting a nuclear winter. However I did not want it to be too dark or we would not be able to see anything. The bloom of the sky is quite exagerated, perhaps that gave you impression the shadow was too dark. but yes I agree, I will see what I can do to lessen the shadow.
p0rcupine:
I was temped to try camara projection, however I opted for a 2d appoach, had issues with render time since it was extremly large resolution..... And with 2d I had more control over camara movement. You should try it with sound, I took some time to do all of my own sound design:)
tokaru:
Thank you!
ragdoll:
That is too kind, I am glad my audio worked for you:)
mooingCow:
Thanks you for the comments of the Stryker being too sharp, I thought I blurred it enough, looks like i need to blur it more. As for the intro, yea I had a hard time deciding how crisp it should look, but opted for the final look because I couldent resist the blingyness, and also because I wanted to give viewers the stark contrast on what is to come.
EssaMania:
Thank you!
pommegenozide:
Ya it took me awhile to finalize the final explosion, took me the longest time to comp that mofo, glad it worked out for you. (offtopic: ya when I have an AK on my forhead, I will sure worry how my brain is going to splatter...)

That's really great work! You and your team should be very proud of the result!
I especially liked the way the titles opened with the names on the shell casings, and the matting done over the existing bldgs! Wow!

WOW!!! When I first watched it I was like, "What's so special about this? This guy just stole footage from some videogame."
And then the second half came along and I realized that not only did he make the video from the ground up, he did it by himself!
The level of detail here is amazing -- incredibly realistic, incredibly professional. I had to remind myself that this was not a CG project from a top-of-the-line company.
After seeing this video, I sent it to all my contacts on MSN Messenger - everyone of them gave it rave reviews. I'll be very surprised if Mr.Yeh is not hired within the next year!
6/5!

AAAH F***ing awesome man, I agree that shadows are a bit too dark, but is amazing piece man, you worked so hard for this, and you deserve a big aplause:applause: , your demo rocks, you came a looong way, you are an awesome artist yeh, you have lots of sensibility in your work, and thats what I love about this piece. the music you made came up really good too.
Im glad to see this, and I want to see more from you, cuz you have big potencial. keep it up man, I wont be surprise if I see this in front page.

hey teh, nice work, if I finish my term 6 u couldnt get ur job yet lets play counter-strike again hehehe (ha couldnt get a job? really? nooo, u can!!!)
I like the shot btw, somehow, in the first shot, the bg is a little bit flat, u already have some atmosphere on the sky, but the rest of the bg (buildings and the roads) doesnt really have some atmosphere, try to play on some value and depth. mostly when the cam panned down, I cant compare between the foreground building and the road
, your last shot is very nice.
the model is also awesome!!, its proven that u are real military mania :)
and overall its great matte painting, very2 nice
happy job hunting!! ^^ (u will get some :p)

Hey Teh, I'm sure you must be pretty bored for this word. But I'm afraid I have to repeat this again to you. "Front page quality totally man!" If I haven't seen you keep destroying your building and texturing that complicated tank for 6 months. I must think this war is true! For me I still think the intro is too shiny (but I know you like bling bling stuff haha). But the rest is awesome really...your patience is worth pay off.
I'm not worry about your job-hunting at all. Just don't bring military stuffs!

Thank you! You have been a great friend!
KOKE:
Thank you! glad its all done, heh we did it, kinda sad but joy its over now.
BnBGobo99:
Thank you, this piece was all done by me, the rigging was done by alanf, I did the lighting, modeling, texturing, rendering, animation, matte painting, compositing, audio, editing.... I had no 3d experience prior to this project, it was quite a challenge.
You are in the US airforce???
dcheng7475:
Thank you!
BuendiaCG:
Heh I stuck with my own ideas and it worked out, really worried I could not deliver, but I firmly stood my ground along with my orignal vision, hence we did it together, we believed that being an artist does not compormise us in anyway. Thank you!
Lupin500:
Thanks, the intro is a homage to a video piece I did in university where I used real shell casings. this is an update with a new medium.
xvampire:
Thanks, this render washed out alot of detail with smoke/fog, orginally there is alot more there.
I chose the Stryker because it is very modern and capable, yet it is not flawless due to its wheeled design, it is said it could be disabled with simple RPG rounds and mines (fire can heat it and cook the passengers inside), but unlike tracked carriers, it can go up speeds of 60mph.
Heber:
Thanks, it was a monster to render, I am glad the details did show afterall. Took me alot of time on the model, did I mention the horrors of unwrapping it??? it was a pain.
som3d59:
Thank you, you had been great morale support along with others:) I dono how I could have finished this without you guys, everyone turned out awsome also. you guys have been family to me.

Thank you!

Thanks for the rig, glad it made out great!

Insane work, congrats.

That is one COOL intro, Teh! Such a neat idea.
Your tank looks amazing and the matte painting is absolutely breathtaking. I'm speechless.
also because I wanted to give viewers the stark contrast on what is to come.
Contrast doesnt really help the piece to be honest. The piece is photo real, and dirty, post-apoco, the intro should just look like real bullets, not "blingy." If it were a stylized reel, you'd have more justification in that choice, but it's not, and if you are able to easily fix it and make it look that much more real, it'd only help you that much more, which you always need to stand out and help your chances in landing that much better of a job.

Hi Teh Yeh Productions, results is wat maters,,,,,,,,,, and you did it.

shy-guy:
Ok that was much flattering. I was planning to visit Lebanon when I was shooting my plates, but opted to not go due to my safety, infact much of it is influenced by the aftermath of that war, along with Iraq, Chechnya, and Bosnia.
It took me some research for this final look, The plates were taken at my apartment right in the center of Vancouver, then I transformed it into a war torn city, I basically imagined daily what Vancouver would look like if war broke out, and I just kept painting it untill it was destroyed enough.
jse80:
Yo, ya Vic aint that bad, sleepy town for retirement. But guess what, I dropped my harddrive along with all my work in it yesturday, I have lost all of my data (my demo reel along with everything from VFS) ..... Fortunatly, I kept a small copy in Vic, and guess what, I am in Vic right now again on a salvage mission. It has been a nightmare! I dont have much left now other than the targa sequence and audio I backed up, it aint much, but at least I still have something.
PinkBunny:
Thank you, it has been quite a ride this year.
mooingCow:
You are not the only one who has mentioned this, It was a major decision I had to make because of timing. Guess how long it took to render the intro?? it was 3000 frames of 1280x720........ it took 4 days on 10 computers to finish that, then in after effects, it took another 27 hours for that look....... Ya...... pretty rediculous, so I had to act fast in order to get that out of the way, too bad I could not get it looking super real, so I just settled for the blingyness. I thought about my classmates also, that was another decision I made not to rerender, they needed the computers way more than my lil intro. Now with my raw targa destroyed, I do not think I will be able to redo that again......
rokokiki:
Hey, you have been another major support for me, thank you for your compassion, and good luck to you also, when will you put your reel up??? Let us 59 proud!

It sure has come a long way, same to you also, we worked really hard, infact all of us worked sooo hard. I can not imagine if we all were not in the same class. I really have to give 59 alot of credit.

Thank you, if you look closely, you can see a little guy shooting the RPG7:)

Yes, I agree the breakdown could have been better. Due to unfortunate circumstances, that is currently on hold. But thank you!

Man watching you working on those long hours of matte painting was a pain!
Especially on your compositing during the crunch period...but in the end it's well worth and you captured the environment setting correctly with every single detail :)
A pat on your back and high five my friend
