View Full Version : Maps not showing up in viewport
Soultwister 02-06-2003, 04:06 PM I am wondering if it's my voodoo 3 card that gives the trouble here, but I have an odd problem with my own system.
On the system I run 3d max 5 on in the afternoons I have no trouble at all, but at home, when I am working with uvw maps they do not show up in the viewport at all. Only way to see them is by rendering.
I have the same problem when I use a rectangle with a bitmap (for reference images) while they do show up correct when I use a box instead.
Anyone knows what causes this problem?

try changing your viewport driver over to something different. you're clicking Show Map in Viewport right? :wip:

Yep, I have clicked show map in viewport, but I'm wondering what the cause of the problem is. Other voodoo 3 users having the same problem?
To illustrate the problem better, look at the Joan of Arc tutorial for example, where rectangles are used to show the reference images. When I use rectangles instead of a box for a reference image on the system I can use most afternoons, the image shows up correctly. When I do so at home, the bitmap won't show up on the rectangle, though it will show up on a box.

well it'll help to know what versions you're running on both machines. what viewport driver you're using on both. etc.

On both systems the same version is running, version 5.0. The viewport driver I use on the one that works properly is a direct3d driver, I use OpenGL driver from voodoo 3 on my own system.
OpenGL driver version: 1.0.0.0734

I think I know what may cause the problem now. The voodoo 3 supports textures up to 256*256 only.

if that's not it, open your oglgfx.ini [in the root of your maxfolder] and see if it says
Allow Multi-Textures=1
is it says
Allow Multi-Textures=0
set it to 1

Have you tried Software mode? ..or, hell, D3D as well I suppose, although idunno what level of support Voodoo's has for that.
Software mode ain't all bad imo if the graphicscard won't accept proper hardwareaccelleration (cue users of Matrox cards.. :))

The only thing that I might add is, instead of using a rectangle or box to use for your maps, use a plane. Also make sure that you have Smooth & Highlights turned on in each of the viewports. Just because it's on in one, doesn't mean it's on in the other.
