View Full Version : Ace those huge maya files!

I did some testing and I found the best way to "zip" up maya files is to use WinAce. Get the latest version and set all the additional/recovery options on, set Dictionary 4096k, set compression on Superfast (which is actually slower than hell but Maximum is even slower), and make sure "Use Ace 2.0 compression" is on.

I got a 44mb maya mb file down to 6mb.

It works great on text files and other uncompressed formats, but stick to Winzip for media cuz WinAce is slow.

Save as a .ma file and compress that. Ascii text compresses 10x more than binary files even though an ascii file is much bigger than a binary file.

yup, but then you can Ace an ascii file as well and it'll be EVEN more compressed =)
