Ok, so here it is, my project from semester 2 last year. It's taken me a while to want to put it online, due to not being happy with it at all! I had planned on adding a little bit more into it and giving it a fix in a few places. However time was against me and now in my 3rd year, I'm not going to have time to do anything on it.

The Premise

Guy goes into a new looking shop, that appears to be some form of tanning salon, only to discover it's a Gene Therapy booth. Where you slot in money and choose what you want to change about your genes. He breaks open and steals the money inside so he can use it. He goes for a hair colour change, this goes fine, but on the 2nd run the machine starts malfunctioning, due to the damage sustained. He then tries to fix it, and thinks he's got away with it but gets his come-uppance.

I don't feel i suceeded in telling this story. I really like the idea and think it could be a lot better developed, the brief gave us about 30-45 seconds worth of time, i think i went up to about 50, but probably need a few more minutes to really tell the story propperly. At the end of the day i managed a lot technically. I made a full character with a great "stop staring" face rig, skinned up a full character, experimented with hair and used a few special effects and post-production effects that i hadn't used before. I gave myself far too much to do and in far too short a space of time, probably about 7weeks work here. I did everthing in this animation, even wrote the music (albeit at the last minute.)

I did at one point have a very nice character with hair and SSS (not working quite propperly) and a scene with lots of nice shinney reflections, but unfortunetly i had several render issues and lost a good weeks worth of setup, and had to revert to almost standard max settings for rendering. No MR or VR, no SSS or advanced lighting.

This is the first time i've done any significant character animation, I don't pretend to be a character animator, I enjoy having a go but I know it's not my strength.

All comments are welcome.

Oh and 1 last thing... Despite me being hideously unhappy with the final piece, i got 83% overall for the research&dev folder and the animation. 2nd highest in the year.
