View Full Version : Parenting objects within a certain frame range?

Hi guys.

I have a question that no one has been able to answer. In LW I would like to be able to parent a ball to my characters hand only for a certain number of frames.

This is because he approaches the ball, picks it up then throws it. So I would like the ball to be parented to his hand for say 150 frames in my animation, then unparented.

Does anyone know if this can be done?

there are dynamic parenting plugins that can do this (check flay?).

Also, you could use multiples of a single object and dissolve between them at different points int he animation.

also, this has been covered previously here, so you may want to dig around and see if you can find the thread(s)

well, seeing as 3d is never realtime rendering [o game viewport stuff..that's different] then you could also just render up til he pickes it up....stop the render at that point THEN link it to his hand...render out that portion...then when he throws it set off another render...

not what a TD woud want you to do but it gets the job done with nr zero technical hitches!

select your object open the motion panel ( m ) then add the modifier "Parenter"

Dynamic ( keyable ) parent will be added to you modifier list

OPen the panel use this Panel to parent and unparent parent etc
your object over the timeline.

If you get any network rending issues, you might need ot nbake the motion. I've had to do that once or twice in the past.

parenter might though..

(its one of the least predictable motion modifiers, but if youre lucky you'll have no problems)
