Ok, here i am again guys. Your help is great.
I am trying to create my first character.
I started with a box edited the mesh converted it to poly, created a nurms referenced to the first box.

Now I am thinking about the body: what is the best way of going about it:
1. should i make the whole character out of the box, extruding the neck and the body and limbs out of the first box or
2. should i create a new box, form it and then somehow blend it all together with either connect, boolean (or what other method!!??)

The goal is that at the end of the day i want to rig my character, animate it seemlessly,. texture it etc....

thjank you!

Howdy !

first off, you might want to consider that you character may not be fully modelled, rigged and animated by the end of this day, else i guess you would not need help

As for myself, i'd go on extruding right from that box you created, you can also create as many boxes as you might need and then attach them all together, but then what would be the use of extruding and suchs features ?
If you want to texture, rigg and animate your character, i'd recommand that it'd be a single mesh, else you might encounter problems in mapping and animation (though i'm no expert, don't take my words for granted)...

If i were you, i'd go and look at tutorials on how to do it, there are quite a few excellent ones on the web

take a look here, for many good tutorials on modelling

there is a sticky thread called "Tutorial Gallore" by Visualboo in this forum featuring a lot of excellent tutorials as well

then... just take a look and try for yourself, it ain't as hard as it looks, eventhough it's not as easy either : )

granted, this is my third day on max so... it may take me a bit more than a day to accomplish what i am after. but i will, thanx. I hope to start mapping today.

I'm going with your answer: one box modified will do it best! Thanx for confirming my hunch.
