View Full Version : Glowing Jelly
Phaeton 10-26-2006, 07:58 PM Hi, does someone know, how to make the subj shader in 3DS Max (it is desirable without any plug-ins, cause scanline is the fastest ;)). Please do not tell me to do that with effect "glow", that isn`t i need. I need liquid (i mean "wet" highlights to be visible). And i need this liquid to glow from the inside, like Predator`s blood for example.
Thanks!

Can`t belive nobody knows how to do that! Is it too hard and complex?

Textures achieve that "wet" look through specularity mapping. Unfortunatley I cannot give you any insight on this as I have pretty much no practical experience with the technique, but it is a place to start.
As for glowing, you could experiment with video post glows, but rather than applying it to the slime object's geometry try applying a video post Flare to an omni light positioned within the slime. When used with a properly setup shader, or some kind of translucency it should shine through pretty nicely.
Hope that helps or at least gives you a place to start.

I don't know max, but in Maya, if I was doing Predator's blood, I would apply a bright green color to the incandecense channel, and make the base color almost black.

some sort of self-illumination?

some sort of self-illumination?
Yes, but with specular highlights. Glowing from inside liquid. I have made something like that using radiosity and "architectural materials" with illumination... Effect is... somethig near, but it is not transparent liqud/jelly. I mean it desn`t refract :(.
