Quite an old piece... One of my first light and shade type of paintings... I wanted to capture the feeling of heat, shade and have a sort of Arabian twist. I see it as total fantasy though and not in the least bit historically acurate...

Matter of fact the whole piece was done without any reference which is what I tend to do anyway. More 'happy accidents' that way I think.

Nice stuff Gary, Personally I think it'd really sing if his eyes were poppin'

ya know, sort of see the "whites of the eyes" style just to give the viewer a bit more accesability. I'm not talking about super powered glows (bonnie tyler would be too far! total eclipse of the heart if you rmemeber the video)
