I want to make a small animation of a character that is basically cut out of paper. Not quite ike south park animation as I want the character to be able to bend on the z-axis as in real life. Only that he is paper. Can anyone give some tips, or tutorial links on how to achieve this in LW8.5? he model as I imagine would be very simple just be highly sub-divided (I could be wrong). If there are any tips on the modelling for easy of animation I'd love to hear those as well.

pretty simple mate! just model a flat humanoid shape out of a grid and then bone it and animate it... ;)

yea thats how I imagine it being. I have never animated before so I wasnt sure if I need to do things like make the mesh more dense in joint areas and things of that nature. I may look into investing in a animation DVD or book. Was hoping for some industry tips... :D

i drew the shapes out in corel draw 11 [corel 12 is available for around £50 on amazon] exported the shapes as ai files,...imported and extruded each shape and coloured it....then parented the segments to each bone...

sorta works!

One thing to consider is if you want the thickness of the paper or not.
If you do have a "back side", prepare to tweak that back side in case it goes through the front on extreme creases.
Or you can have the bevel only, and not the back side.
Or you could probably use a shader (i forgot the name and never use it) by a japanese programmer
