:hmm: it's a hard to say, but go to ati for information about radeon, i know that radeon it's ready for Directx 9, and max 5 support it

I don't know for the 9700 but I both a 8500 one year ago and the drivers are totaly bad for Max5, even the new one......In OpenGl after few minutes(for no reasons) I've got a black screen and my computer is crash!!!! (I have to work in Direct3d)

Well, that's it!

Maybe it's different for the 9700, but for me ATI IT'S FINISH :thumbsdow (just one things, I both a card "powerd" by ATI...maybe it's for this???)

i'm only assuming but i figure the new 9700 would have better driver support by now than the 8500-.

<-not a fan of ATI either :thumbsdow

It's been said that nVidia cards work far better with max. I don't have anything to back this up, but that's what a lot of 3d-hardware vendors say.

As for the openGL/direct3D issue, that appears to be consistent with most cards. openGL just seems to crash a lot more.
