View Full Version : question about digital painting
mansooour 10-25-2006, 02:17 PM It's may be a stupid question, but I'm a bigginer in this field.
are there a special equipment used in (digital painting) or (consept art) or (illustration)
I'm sorry, I really dont know the difference between them.
to make my question more obvious......
are you using ...the mouse... to make these paintings,
I think it's very difficult to do that using a mouse only, is there other equipment (special pen for example)
sorry of my bad english.

You will need a wacom tablet to use your wacom pen on ;)
An illustration doesnt have to be a digital painting, nor does consept art, they can be made using traditional mediums aswell. An illustration is usually an image that we see in books or on book covers or even cards, its an image, basically.
Consept art is more design based. A creature, pice of machinery, character, enviroment, game. Basically I'd say theyre more like ideas put nicely on paprer :)

That's about right, mansooour. Digital painting is one of many techniques that can be used to create illustrations and concept art. Illustrations are usually complete works that are meant to be displayed in a book, on a DVD box, in a gallery, etc. The goal of concept art is to present an idea to the people in charge of a film or video game. The idea may be a creature, vehicle, environment, character, prop, etc. Lots of art is shown to the powers that be and decisions are made regarding which designs will be used and which ones won't.
Illustrations are created for people to see them. Concept art is created to help other artists create something for people to see.

When you have chosen which Wacom tablet you're buying, you will find it comes with some software. The Wacom I bought came with Corel Painter Essentials, which is a great tool before you step up to Painter IX or Photoshop. I'd suggest an A5 tablet, which is a good starter size to get used to the way it works without being a massive drain on your wallet.

Hello Muhammad, I think Wacom tablets are the best, but they cost much. So If you want a good big tablet that doesn't cost lots of money choose a Genius ( it's available in Amman and the price is not bad, send me a personal message if you need any help;) )
Good luck at learning 2D/3D, it's FUN!
