I like how everyone is all about positive reenforcement.

Makes you want to forget about work and just do the Challenge.

To Fellah The forhead will probably not be an issue with the hair on, but, I know what you are talking about (you should have seen it before). The ears I will go over some more, but, the ear lobes will stay big because it is good luck in chinese religon.

I am glad you like it Sphere777 I was worried it was looking to much like a giant merange on his head. I like sculptural hair design, a testament to my 2d roots.

its interesting to see how little subtleties can enhance a characters expression, like how his bottom lip is slightly furthur forward for example, it makes him look like hes gonna explode you or something!

I am really going for subtlety in this model (with exception to the hair design) thanks for noticing. I really hope I can go as far as rigging him and animating him before the 5th.

I really should not get ahead of myself though and get a the model done.

so_hi
03-27-2002, 09:46 AM
ACFred, about the wrists they are thick on purpose if you compare it to my concept drawing I intended the arms to get progressively thicker to the ends. Needless to say though, I have been wrestling with them trying to keep true to the concept and at the same time look workable. :hmm:

Thank you for the crit and for the vote of confidence.

I think you have way too many polys in there. You should read Bay Raitt's tutorial, it's very important to have as few edges and polygons as possible in order to make animating easier and rendering faster. For instance, all that smoothness on the biceps and the chest isn't necessary. You could get rid of half of those segments in the chest/gut and still get the same result with faster rendering speeds.

so_hi
03-27-2002, 10:49 AM
I am so annoyed with all these people that are afraid of high poly models, espescially ones that don't have one poly to there name (you know who you are). I put just enough polys in to get the detail and nuance I want, if you can't deal that's your problem not mine. :annoyed:

Cgkoko
03-27-2002, 03:49 PM
Nice sugestion lone wolf:rolleyes: .Maybe you should animate such a model after 'getting rid' of those edges? What do you thing is going to hapen to your model if you use less polys in the arms when you try to rest the arm to the sides?.:scream: :D
Nise work so_hi.Your model is not dense. It's nice and clean, it's funny to even think of reduction of polys.

03-27-2002, 04:51 PM
Ummm.. yeah, LW.. whatever...

I'm a big believer in high-poly modelling myself (I'd put up the meshes of some of my characters on my website but I'm afraid of people ponting and calling me the "infinte poly guy" or something...:D )

GREAT model so far! I love it!

You mock so-hi's little god of love? How dare you critique a model when your only comment is how heavy it is. This work is both proffessional and creative, your work, although not even a cg piece is worthy of both ass and poo. so in the future please refraine from making ill comments to my friend so-hi, or you might find yourself on the recieving end of pooman in a clocktower!!

rebeldreams I forgot to say that I am using Xsi to model with. I just started using it a month and half ago and I'm not looking back. It kind of pains me to have to use Maya any more. I probably will have to rigg it in Maya just to meet the deadline, I am a lot more familiar with it when it come to enveloping. I will re-rigg him it Xsi after though.

To patrick Fodéré I fully intend to, hope to get lots done on good friday.

Woah woah woah, I was making a suggestion that could help increase your productivity while animating and your rendering speeds, I love your character and you have a lot of skill. This is a community where you have to accept the compliments with the critiques, if you're expecting people to just stroke your ego then you're in the wrong place. Great model anyways.

EDIT: And in all seriousness I was only attempting to offer help to you in a non harsh, constructive manner (I didn't flame at all). Whether you choose to agree with my suggestions is up to you and I respect that, but if you disagree please do so in a civil, mature way. No sense in getting bent out of shape, this is supposed to be fun right? :)

Ah, sweet, sweet Softimage...

I just got through setting up SoftImage and Maya 4 with RayTools to pipe the renders through MentalRay - LOVE that GI, don't get on too well with SI's modelling interface. Call me an old stick-in-the-mud. And WHY oh WHY does AW insist on using a renderer that moves at about 8mph when everyone else can implement a GI solution that can go at Warp 12?

Lonewolf - I'd like to apologise for my offhand tone. I misunderstood you, and I'd like to extend an olivebranch immediately. Call me Mr Thicky.:o

Flicker is so subtle. Very nice style to him!

The area I see that needs some attention is the forearm and wrist, but other than that this model is very nice. Even there is not too bad, it is just a little off from the rest.

This is another that I hope continues to get updates even after the challenge is over.

VERY SAYAN-LIKE!!!!!

i love the style... the clothes are wonderful, the hairs too!
i love the face...

i'd love to have a statuette like this one on my computer table (those useless things that fill up all your space, and you lose yourself in tought looking at and your boss just catches you and wonders if you ever work...)

I do have some Big plans for Flicker.
I will be starting a thread in the Work in Progress threads, after the voting is done. I was unable to do the particle work I wanted to So look for that.

Thanks again for the Votes.
